The proposals
The proposals
It is proposed that a regionally co-ordinated project, led by a commissioner / provider group, is required to develop and implement plans to achieve the Carter recommendations.
There is a need to articulate and communicate, through clinical engagement with the pathology community, a shared vision for the future. NHS East of England will work with commissioners and acute providers to prepare the ground for change.
It is proposed that NHS East of England, providers and commissioners should work together to establish a Pathology Services Board to begin work and co-ordinate activity. The board will be accountable to the East of England Operations Board.
The Pathology Services Board’s tasks will include:
- reviewing the commissioning of community pathology services and to produce outline business case(s), specifications, proposals and implementing proposals for change.
- reviewing provider networks of pathology services and encouraging providers (including networks) to produce outline business case(s), specifications, proposals and implementing proposals for change
- developing and implementing effective communications strategies to involve stakeholders in the process.
It is proposed that the Pathology Services Board Membership includes commissioners, providers, clinicians and patient representatives.
