Transforming pathology
There have been successive reviews of pathology services, most recently the Carter Review, published in 2008. Carter stated that “service consolidation is necessary to transform pathology services so that they can respond swiftly to the challenges presented by innovation, system reform across the NHS and reform of the workforce”.
NHS East of England’s Strategic Projects Team has been charged with investigating ways to progress Carter’s recommendations in the region, and is working to establish and support the formation of Managed Pathology Networks as the optimum mode of delivery for pathology services.
